2014 and the Men’s Lacrosse World Championships may seem distant, but not for the Welsh Senior Men’s Team Manager, Mike Evans. Mike is using the forthcoming British National Championships to identify potential players for the 2014 World Championships in Denver, Colorado. Mike says ‘players with the potential to be senior internationals in two years time will be very much in our minds this weekend. We want players with the skills, physical attributes and mental toughness to be part of our development programme over the next two years in the run up to Denver’.

This weekend, 4 and 5 May, sees Wales Lacrosse sending three men’s teams to the British National championships in Manchester. The Wales Dragons who are the senior men’s team, Wales U19 and a debut for a team representing Wales Universities. The weekend is part of a rigorous training schedule for the U19 s who take part in the U19 World Championships in Finland in July, as well as for the senior side who are in the European Championships in Amsterdam in June 2012.

Any players who consider they have Welsh connections and who wish to try out for the Wales 2014 squad should click here to contact the Wales Lacrosse Men's Performance team. Head coach Dan Funnell, veteran of three World Championships, said ‘We’ve already set up the two year training programme, including the 2013 Five Nations tournament in Dublin, August 2013. Opposition will be Ireland, Scotland, Italy and France. Competition for places will be fierce and if you’re Welsh and play lacrosse, Denver is the place to be!’

This year will be one of the most competitive as both the European Championships and the Under 19 World Cup are this year and this is a good marker of the standards to be playing.

The Dutch U19s team will be playing a series of international and scrimmage games over ther weekend including England U19s on Friday evening (astro) 7.00pm face off. Scotland U19s (astro) 5.30pm Saturday & Wales U19s (astro) at 9.00am Sunday. All games will be played to full International rules.

From the 20th until the 30th of June over 20 nationalities are represented during the men’s and women’s tournament. The total amount of professional players will exceed 2.000! It’s the biggest sport event this summer in The Netherlands and as a whole in the history of lacrosse! Next to the European Championships, a festival will be organized where teams will play and party. For this festival, we are looking for referees for the men’s and women’s games.

Key areas of responsibility:
The referees will be responsible for the fair procedure of the games of the festival. You are required to have a license to ref and be available for the full duration of the festival tournament. Referees experienced at reffing festivals are favored.

- Good ability to improvise and work under stress

The tournament ticket which gives you access to all games played in the whole tournament costs 75 Euros. Day tickets which give you access to all games being played during one day cost 10 Euros. Games played at the secondary field Kupittaa are free of charge.

Prior to placing an order, please have a look at the schedule and make sure you are buying the tickets to the correct event. Via the ticketing system, you are also able to buy multiple tickets. You are able to pay with major credit cards and Finnish bank transfer.

We are inviting all lacrosse players to take part in the 2nd annual of the European Lacrosse League.
The ELL will consist of six tournaments in following days:

1. September 1–2
2. September 8–9
3. September 22–23
4. October 6–7
5. October 13–14
Play-off: October 26–27

The places of the tournaments are beeing negotiated and will be announced later.
The participation fee for players stays CZK 500, as well as the system of setting the teams. Team managers will have chance to conclude a contract with a specific number of players to establish the core of their teams, then they will select the rest of the players from registered applicants by drafts in July 2012.
The on-line registration form will be available at ELL website within three weeks. The registration deadline will be June 30, 2012.

After being caught up in long delays by an accident on the M1 Birmingham started slowly and fell behind early on to Cambridge. However Birmingham rallied well and going into the last minute the score was eight each. Both teams performed magnificently and it really was a match that neither deserved to lose but with seconds remaining it was Cambridge who scored to break Birmingham hearts and secure the gold medals. Congratulations to Cambridge and credit to both teams for providing such a fantastic contest.

The other finals matches were slightly more one sided, congratulations to Leeds Met who triumphed 15-1 over Cardiff in the Men’s trophy final and Newcastle who became women’s trophy winners defeating Oxford 10-3.
