A tri-nations tournament is going to be held this weekend on the fields of Amsterdam, where European Championships will be organized. It will be the first chance for players of the newly created national teams from the Netherlands, Germany and England to show their skills against strong competitors. Snow and freezing cold cannot be an excuse to stop playing lacrosse in Europe!
Since the early fall of 2011, all teams have been preparing themselves for two greatest events ever in the history of lacrosse in Europe, the European Championships in Amsterdam and U-19 World Championships in Finland. Under the guidance and leadership of experienced and professional coaching crews, they have been making use of every weekend not occupied by national league events to strengthen their lacrosse skills. Hopefully, the upcoming five games in Amsterdam on international level will build up their confidence, too. Moreover, an exhibition game between the Dutch National Team and the Dutch U-19 National Team will be played to raise awarness about the beauty of the sport among local citizens.
The European Championships will take place later this year, from June 20 to June 30, on the fields of Amsterdamse Bos in Amstelveen. Therefore, the pressure on both Oranje teams will be higher and expectations high to play hard and eventually win the games. It won't be an easy task - although the Dutch team was ranked 2nd at the last European Championships in 2008, it is now to face best players from the English (1st in 2008) and German (3rd in 2008) leagues. All in all, it should be a high level show from which all players will gain necessary experience to strike even harder in their final test in June.
